Carri Nelsen is a high energy, outgoing and friendly woman with a mission. She is determined to help us all get fit and happy. You may recognize her name, she is the star and expert of our new weekly blog, “Wellness Wednesdays”. She is also the Group Fitness Manager and an instructor at Gold’s Gym in Shrewsbury. Carri is one of the most patient, understanding and supportive fitness instructors around. Let’s learn a little more about what makes her tick!

What do you do for a living? I am a mom and a group fitness manager & instructor.

How long have you been doing it? Mom – 3 ½ years, Group Fitness Instructor – 5 years, Group Fitness Mgr at Gold’s Gym in Shrewsbury – 1 year

What are three words you would use to describe yourself? Independent, emotional and inquisitive.

What do your friends fi nd annoying about you? I’m not sure. Maybe I should ask!

I don’t want to admit it, but… my feelings get hurt easily, even if I seem to have a rough exterior.

If you won the lottery, what would you do? Pay off debts for family, invest a bunch and buy a vacation home, all after taking a ridiculously overindulgent trip somewhere.

Do you dream about or wish for anything? For my daughter to grow up strong, intelligent and independent & having my husband cancer-free.

What is great about your job? As a mother, watching my daughter laugh and smile, learn and grow. As an instructor, getting to witness the changes in people as they improve their health and overall well-being. And, as a manager, being in charge of something I feel very passionate about in a really great facility.

Where do you live? Parkton

How long have you lived here? Almost 6 years

What is the best thing about your neighborhood? It is full of great people and we have a lot of fun.

How would you describe your family? Small but largely fulfilling.

Are you involved in the community? How? Not yet, but hope to be as my daughter gets older.

Favorite local restaurant? Pioneer Pub

Where did you go to high school? Palatine High School in Palatine, IL

What was your first car? Pontiac Sunbird

Do you have pets? What? Yes, an adult Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Golden Retriever puppy

What is your favorite hobby? Why? Exercise, because it makes me feel better both mentally and physically.
