Lisa K. Feulner, MD, PHD is a board-certified ophthalmologist with a well respected and highly skilled practice, Advanced Eye Care in Bel Air, MD. Her list of professional credentials is long and very impressive but what we’re most impressed with is her kind and giving spirit. Dr. Feulner surround her self with friends and family who share the same values of getting involved in the community and making a difference in people’s lives. Here’s what we learned when we got to know Lisa…

What do you do for a living? I’m an ophthalmologist

How long have you been doing it? Thirteen years

What is great about your job? I get to work with people of all ages; children to the elderly. Each patient is unique so no two days are ever the same. I get to be part of and enjoy the excitement that people experience after their sight is restored following cataract surgery.

Where do you live? Churchville, MD

How long have you lived here? 13 years

What is the best thing about your neighborhood? Some of my closest friends live in our neighborhood and the kids have close friends too. We’re around to help one another with carpools, snow days or to watch each others’ homes when we’re away.

How would you describe your family? My family is BUSY! We’re very involved with community activities, sports and school events.

Are you involved in the community? How? My husband and I are very involved with the Boys and Girls Club of Harford County. We attend fundraisers and are hosting one in our home this June. My husband also volunteers with my son twice a week at basketball games held at McFaul Boys and Girls Club. We’re also active in our local synagogue and my son’s school.

Favorite local restaurant? Bull on The Beach – We have friends who work there so we enjoy supporting them. When we go there it’s like being greeted by family.

Favorite local fun spot? The Arena Club

Where did you go to high school? Plymouth Whitemarsh Sr. High (Plymouth Meeting, PA)

Favorite event in the area? Maryland State BBQ Bash in Bel Air, MD

What was your first car? Old Pontiac Station Wagon

Do you have pets? What? A goldfish

What is your favorite hobby? Why? Skiing – I’ve been skiing since I could walk. It’s something I shared with my family growing up and now enjoy it with my children and husband. I love the exercise, freedom and beauty of the mountains. It brings back wonderful memories of my childhood.

What are three words you would use to describe yourself? Organized, out-going, loyal.

What do your friends find annoying about you? I don’t have enough free time to spend with them.

I don’t want to admit it, but… “I love RAY RICE!”

What was the most important lesson your parents taught you? My father said, “if you want to evaluate yourself look at the people you surround yourself with. If they’re warm, loving, honest people, it’s a reflection of yourself. If they’re not, then that’s also a reflection of yourself.” Also, “People are the most important thing. They’re more important than money or objects in your life.” Finally, “Don’t do it if you’re not going to do it right…and you don’t have the option to not do it.” – Hard work and determination.

Where is the most interesting place you have been? I backpacked through Europe for a year, mostly by myself when I was 20 years old. Everywhere I went was amazingly interesting. I think the country that impacted me the most was Greece. I stayed there for six weeks and met and stayed with people of that country, learning about their culture and appreciated their incredible hospitality. I’ve been back several times since then. Italy was fantastic too with its diverse landscape, art, history and of coure – food!

Is there anything else you would like us to know about you? Exercise is an important part of the balance in my life. I’m commited to getting in exercise at least 2 – 3 days a week including time with my trainers, indoor soccer and classes.
