Bowl with Friends & Family

to Help Strike-Out Pet Homelessness

Humane Society of Harford County Hosting Annual Bowl-a-Rama

to Raise Funds for Homeless Animals

It’s time to lace up the snazzy rented bowling shoes, buy a slice of pizza, and settle in for a fun-filled afternoon of bowling on Saturday, February 25, 2012 from 3:00 – 6:30 p.m. at Forest Hill Lanes, One Maurice Drive in Forest Hill, MD in support of the homeless and neglected animals at the Humane Society of Harford County.

You don’t have to be a candidate for the Professional Bowling Association to join in and raise money for the animals. Forest Hill Lanes has lane bumpers for the kids and computerized score keeping, so anyone can participate. The key to success is collecting donations prior to the event which can be accomplished two ways: either print a paper form to collect donations or create a personalized event page at

Registration for the Bowl-a-Rama will begin at 3 p.m. and participants will bowl as many games as they can fit in between 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. Pre-registration is $15 per person and registration at the door is $20. Registration fees will help to pay for lane rentals and bowling shoes. To pre-register, visit www.harfordshelter.org by February 20 and follow the links to register and pay the $15 per person pre-registration fee with a credit card – or call 410-836-1090, x101 to pay over the phone. Each lane will consist of up to five bowlers, so if you have fewer players, you may be paired with other bowlers.www.harfordshelter.org for details.

About the Humane Society of Harford County:

The Humane Society of Harford County, Inc., is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to the welfare and well-being of the approximately 4,500 animals that come to us each year. We promote the kind treatment of homeless, stray and abandoned animals by providing shelter, care, adoptions, and community education. We are not a county agency nor are we affiliated with any national or regional organization. Your taxdeductible donations, bequests, and proceeds from events are crucial to our life-saving efforts on behalf of the animals of our community.

For every $50 you raise in donations, you will receive two raffle tickets for a chance to win cool prizes. Raffle tickets will also be available for purchase at the Bowl-a-Rama. Tickets are $3 each, two for $5, or an arm’s length for $10. Prizes will also be awarded for the top three individuals or groups who raise the most money.

If your group is interested in sponsoring the Bowl-a-Rama, there are three different sponsorship levels that provide recognition in flyers, advertisements, and on the Internet. Visit

www.harfordshelter.org and fundraise online. Most people do both! You’re passionate about animals, right? Then don’t be shy about asking friends, family, co-workers, and school buddies to support the animals at the shelter. All donations are taxdeductible and should be brought to the registration desk on the day of the Bowl-a-Rama.

Board of Education Seeks Community Input

TOWSON, MD. - The Board of Education of Baltimore County has initiated its search for a new superintendent.

The Board has retained the services of Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA), a nationally-recognized consulting firm specializing in assisting local Boards of Education in finding qualified superintendent candidates. Additionally, a key step in the superintendent search process is to identify the characteristics the Board should consider in choosing a new superintendent.  The community‘s input and assistance would be greatly appreciated in this important step.  The public will be able to participate in this process by:

  • Completing the online survey at http://www.bcps.org/supsearch.htm prior to January 27, 2012, or
  • Attending an Open Forum to offer comments. Forums will take place on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at Loch Raven High School, 1212 Cowpens Avenue in Towson, beginning at 6:30 p.m., and at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at both Woodlawn High School, 1801 Woodlawn Drive in Woodlawn, and Kenwood High School, 501 Stemmers Run Road, Middle River.  HYA will facilitate the open forums.

First Fruits Farm has over 100 acres of farm land dedicated to growing fresh fruits and vegetables to feed the hungry.  They are an all-volunteer organization and require assistance from many in order to make their ministry work.
Due to the abundant amount of rain recently, First Fruits Farm could use help with the FINAL potato harvest.  They will be harvesting (weather permitting) the last field for the next three weekends:

Saturday, October 22 ~ 9:00 am - 12 noon
Sunday, October 23 ~ 1:00 - 4:00 pm

Saturday, October 29 ~ 9:00 am - 12 noon
Sunday, October 30 ~ 1:00 - 4:00 pm

Saturday, November 5 ~ 9:00 am - 12 noon
Sunday, November 6 ~ 1:00 - 4:00 pm

They will meet at 9:00 am on Saturdays or 1:00 pm on Sundays at the First Fruits Farm address, 2025 Freeland Road, Freeland, MD 21053
The harvest will be at a remote field ~ please be ON TIME so that the group can depart together and/or you may receive directions. Cell phone reception is not reliable at the remote site, so once the group departs, it will be difficult for you to contact us.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome.  This is a great opportunity to get the family involved in serving the community and the perfect chance for middle-schoolers and high-schooler to earn service hours.
Hoping to see many of you at the Farm for a great day of work and Christian Fellowship! If you have any questions, please contact Rick Bernstein at 410-218-8289
